I was born in Tokyo, Japan and my parents immigrated to the United States when I was 2 months old. I look Japanese and speak the language, but I consider myself American.
I married young to a 2nd generation Japanese man for 17 years and faced the divorce taboos firsthand.
I raised two great kids and remarried to an African American man, and in sharing my life with him, I really realized racism is still prevalent.
With my brother married to a Jewish woman, I have a wonderful privilege to be exposed to diverse cultures and different perspectives that I want to share in my comic strips.
